ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man will appear in court Wednesday afternoon to face charges for breaking into a tornado victim’s home.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the break-in happened on Monday, May 26, in the 5000 block of Enright Avenue, located in the city’s Academy/Sherman Park neighborhood.
Police said they received a call about a suspicious person at a tornado-damaged home. Officers responded and saw Kevin Whitfield, 34, coming from the back of the home with a bag containing hair products. Police found a large, flat-screen television on the front porch.
Whitfield allegedly admitted going into the home. The homeowner told police she never gave Whitfield permission to do so.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Whitfield with second-degree burglary and stealing – $750 or more. Whitfield was jailed without bond.
