ST. LOUIS – A convicted felon from St. Louis appeared in federal court on Tuesday and admitted using a shotgun in a 2023 robbery of a Family Dollar store.
Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said Divontay Scott, 34, confessed in court to robbing the Family Dollar store on South Grand Boulevard on Oct. 17, 2023.
Scott said he ordered an employee to open the cash register and stole $114 in cash.
Witnesses recognized Scott as a regular customer, even though he attempted to conceal his identity by partially covering his face. He was also caught on surveillance video in the store earlier that day.
Scott’s plea agreement said he texted a paramour his plans to rob the store, as well as a picture of the money he stole.
Scott pleaded guilty to three felony counts: robbery, possession and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Federal prosecutors and Scott’s attorney agreed to recommend a sentence of 11 years in prison. He’ll be sentenced on July 8.
