ST. LOUIS – St. Louis police have a man in custody for a drive-by shooting that happened Sunday night in downtown.
According to a statement from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened before 9 p.m. at Spruce and South 4th streets.
Police found the victim, a 39-year-old man, in the 900 block of Chouteau Avenue. He’d been shot multiple times.
The victim told police he was at the red light at Spruce and S. 4th when a black SUV pulled up next to him and a man fired several shots at him. The victim sped off and went to the location on Chouteau to call the police.
EMS transported the victim to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Investigators reviewed surveillance video from the scene of the shooting and identified a black Chevrolet Equinox as the suspect vehicle. A short time later, the St. Louis SWAT Team located that same Equinox at Natural Bridge Road and Kingshighway Boulevard. They pulled the SUV over and took a 34-year-old man into custody. Police said a gun and ballistic evidence were recovered from the Equinox.
Police are applying for charges with the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office.
