ALTON, Ill. – Homicide detectives are investigating after a man was killed in a shooting at daybreak in Alton, Illinois.

According to Sgt. Andrew Pierson, a spokesman for the Alton Police Department, police received word of a shooting around 5:50 a.m. in the 2000 block of Agnes Boulevard.

Officers arrived to find Christopher D. Green lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound. Green was taken to a nearby hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. He was 41.

Pierson said investigators have identified a person of interest in the shooting, and that Green and this person knew one another.

Police have not said if this individual is in custody.
