ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – A man faces a felony charge after he allegedly took $12,000 for a contractor job in St. Charles County, but failed to begin work or offer a refund nearly half a year later.

The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Bryan E. Curry, 40, of Curryville, Missouri, with one count of stealing in excess of $750 amid the investigation.

According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, a homeowner and Curry agreed to terms for a concrete job at his St. Charles County home in early-March. The homeowner provided Curry with a $12,000 down payment for a $24,000 job on March 8, reportedly informing Curry that the other half would be paid once he completed the concrete job.

Court documents state that Curry “continually provided excuses” for several weeks as to why he hadn’t started the work. At some point, Curry reportedly no longer responded to the homeowner’s attempts to contact him.

The homeowner contacted St. Charles County authorities, who attempted to contact Curry’s known business phone number and email address, though without any replies, per court documents. Authorities say they also tried to contact Curry at his most recent home address on file, but was advised that he had no lived there since last October.

Court documents state that Curry agreed to the job under the business name of Curry Construction LLC.

The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued a criminal summons for Curry last Friday, though it does not appear he has been arrested, per online Missouri court records.

Curry also has convictions for passing a bad check and stealing between Lincoln and Pike counties, according to Missouri court records.
