JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – A man is facing charges after being accused of stealing nearly $6,000 from his terminally-ill neighbor earlier this year.

According to court documents, Michael Arnold Jr., of Imperial, was house sitting his neighbor’s residence on Jan. 17, as she was gone to receive treatments for her terminal illness.

When his neighbor arrived back, she realized some things were out of place. Upon further inspection, she noticed several items were missing, which included jewelry, a tablet, sunglasses, a watch, camcorder, and more.

The total value of the items stolen came out to $5,951.

Arnold’s neighbor confronted him about the missing items when he started a verbal argument, pressing his chest against her body while yelling, court documents added.

Arnold is charged with fourth-degree assault and stealing $750 or more. A hearing is scheduled for July 7.
