ST. LOUIS – Midwest gas station chain ‘Kum & Go’ is set to undergo a rebranding, forgoing its name that has garnered viral, immature reactions across social media.
The company’s rebranding announcement follows its acquisition by rival chain Maverik back in 2023. The rebranding will consist of combining the two chains together to reflect the Maverik brand.
Kum & Go was originally launched in Iowa back in 1959 under the name ‘Hampton Oil Company’ by owners W.A. Krause and T.S. Gentle. The gas station would later transition to its viral name in 1975 to honor the initials of its owners last names and to promote the speed of service available to customers.
The gas station chain was able to reach the national spotlight due to the sexual innuendo that has been spread across social media. The chain’s branded merchandise also gained popularity when a shirt was worn by stunt performer Johnny Knoxville in the 2006 film ‘Jackass Number Two.’
Kum & Go has over 300 locations spread across 12 states in the Midwest. The chain was able to spread its footprint to over 800 locations across 20 states through its merger with Maverik.
