MISSOURI — The Missouri Department of Revenue is warning against a recent text scam claiming to be from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
The text scam claims to be the “final official notice” regarding unpaid tolls or fines related to traffic violations associated with the vehicle of the person receiving the text message.
The fraudulent text message threatens that failure to pay the balance would result in additional fines and late fees, suspension of your driver’s license or vehicle registration, referral to collections, or potential legal action.
The text then asks recipients to take immediate action by clicking on a link or replying to the message.
What should you do if you receive a text scam?
The Missouri Department of Revenue advises recipients of the text scam to do the following:
- Do not click on any links in the message
- Do not respond
- Delete the message immediately
