SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. – The cool, wet weather is keeping most people off of area lakes during the unofficial start of summer.

That low traffic also means fewer accidents and injuries involving boats.

With the water temperature being higher than the air temperature, lake goers in the Ozarks were seen taking in some of the drier and warmer spots along Bagnell Dam.

Compared to previous Memorial Day weekend reporting periods, this weekend has been exceptionally quiet.

As of the last check, the most recent report was from earlier this month involving the drowning death of a 14-year-old boy on May 16.

Last year, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported seven different boating incidents along with seven injuries during Memorial Day weekend.

The full report, including traffic crashes, will cover a reporting period that ends on Monday night just before midnight.
