KANSAS CITY, Mo. – If you consider yourself a fan of the bald eagle, well, you may just be in luck to see the majestic animal live 24/7.

Announced by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), it will be teaming up with various partners, including the City of Blue Springs, Evergy, Capital Electric Line Builders, Axis Communications and Wild Souls Wildlife Rehabilitation to make this experience possible for those who may be curious about the bald eagle.

According to the department, the sole live camera was installed on an eagle’s nest, where individuals can witness the life cycle in real time.

“The ability to set up the only live-stream eagle cam in the state of Missouri is an incredible opportunity to connect our community with nature in a whole new way,” said Blue Springs Mayor Chris Lievsay.

Bald eagles are making a comeback after dwindling in numbers. Now, about 10,000 pairs nest in this country yearly, with about 200 in the state of Missouri, MDC notes.

The nests of an eagle are fairly huge, but these animals are known to mate for life. MDC states that a pair can produce three eggs annually. Chris Cain, MDC Urban Wildlife biologist, said the 24/7 livestreams can allow individuals to witness nature in its wildest capacities.

“(Viewers) can see what it is like to grow as a young eagle, as well as what it takes to raise one. It can also help remind the public how little things we do can affect these creatures,” Cain said. “The learning benefits of this project are endless.”

Bald eagles are a protected species in the United States, and the exact location of the nest will not be disclosed to protect the wildlife.
