MISSOURI – The Missouri Council of the Blind is offering emergency relief and financial assistance to blind and visually impaired residents impacted by the recent tornado.

The assistance aims to address the immediate needs of those who have lost food due to power outages or are currently living with family and friends due to the damage.

“A lot of those individuals are moving back into their homes, but one of our big concerns is that in the damaged area their not able to, a lot of these folks live alone. You may have windows out, you may have doors be in disrepair, the home many not even been in such a way they are safe for them to live in. And with them living in that home, and not being able to see what’s going on around them, I have some real safety concerns as well,” William Hawkins said.

The council is particularly concerned about the safety of visually challenged individuals living in the affected area.

Residents who require help can contact the Missouri Council of the Blind at 314-832-7172 for assistance.
