ST. LOUIS – The morning storms came and went as forecast. The next round of rain and storms is being forced more to the south as expected.
This will put the emphasis on storms the rest of today along and south of Interstate 70.
There is a Level 2 (out of 5) risk for some strong to severe storms over our southern and southeastern viewing area—southeast of metro STL.
As of 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, majority of the viewing area is under a severe thunderstorm watch, including the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County, until 3 p.m. Some of the most southwestern counties in the viewing area are under a severe thunderstorm warning, including Phelps, Dent, and Pulaski counties until noon.
The greatest threat will be south of Metro St. Louis within the watch. Damaging winds of 60 mph, quarter sized hail, and heavy rain are the greatest concerns.
There is a low risk of a small, short-duration, quick-spin up tornado as well. If one were to develop, it would be on the weaker end of the tornado spectrum.
Timing for the next wave of storms will range from very late morning into the mid-afternoon hours. Beyond the afternoon hours, much of the area can anticipate scattered showers.
