ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Officials are investigating three fires that happened in an unincorporated area in Castle Point just after 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Police said that they received a call informing them about a dumpster and mattress that caught fire outside of a vacant home located on Empress. When arriving at the scene, officials took care of the flames and reported no injuries.
An hour later, however, officials were alerted to another fire at another vacant home—this time on Duke near Princess.
This vacant house sustained major damage, but no injuries were confirmed by first responders.
Authorities said that this is not the first time these fire incidents have occurred in the North County neighborhood.
Keith Goldstein, Fire Chief of North County Fire and Rescue, believes that an arsonist is responsible. His reasoning—Goldenstein told FOX 2 that vacant homes in the Castle Point area were set on fire a few weeks ago.
“Vacant homes normally don’t have any power or utilities to it so you know you can really tell that they’re not accidental fires,” Goldstein said.
Police have identified a person of interest in relation to the Duke Drive fire and took them into custody.
