ST. LOUIS – Meteorologists from the National Weather Service spent Saturday surveying tornado damage across St. Louis.

They say the tornado touched down in Clayton, where the survey team found a lot of uprooted trees and large broken limbs, indicative of EF 0 damage. The tornado continued to strengthen as it moved northeast, uprooting more trees and snapping tree trunks.

The tornado began to cause significant structural damage as it moved into the Fountain Park neighborhood where EF 2 and EF 3 damage (winds to around 150 mph) was found. Fox 2’s Caroline Pettey was there Sunday morning and shows a street that has brick buildings with exterior walls completely collapsed.

EF 3 damage was also found in the Kingsway East and Greater Ville neighborhoods. The damage path was up to one mile wide at times.

The National Weather Service will be out Sunday to survey damage east of the river into Illinois where the tornado’s path likely continued.
