ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – No injuries were reported after a likely tornado swept through the Wildwood and Chesterfield areas Wednesday afternoon.

The storm, which hit around 2:45 or 3 p.m., led to structural damage to homes and downed trees and power lines, leaving several thousand Ameren customers without power for a period of time.

“That was a sun porch and he had an awning over the front and it’s all gone. So, we lost some trees so we’ll be out here with some chainsaws,” said Larry Strassburger, a resident of Wildwood. “It rained a little bit and all of a sudden the wind picked up and we went down to the basement.”

The National Weather Service is expected to survey the area Thursday to confirm whether a tornado was responsible for the damage. Residents are starting the cleanup process, with many expressing gratitude for no injuries sustained during the storm. By Thursday morning, the number of Ameren customers without power had decreased significantly.

While the damage from this storm pales in comparison to the massive tornado on May 16, the community is relieved that there were no injuries and is focused on recovery.
