ST. LOUIS – Attorneys for an O’Fallon, Missouri, man appeared in court on his behalf Tuesday after their client was charged with causing a 2023 fatal crash in south St. Louis.

The crash happened just after 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 8, 2023, at the intersection of Keokuk Street and South Broadway in the Dutchtown neighborhood.

According to a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson, two passenger vehicles were involved in the crash: Pontiac with four people inside it and the other a Volvo with one person in it.

Police said the driver of the Pontiac, identified as Christopher D. Thomas, 50, drove through a traffic light at the intersection and struck the Volvo. The driver of the Volvo, a 17-year-old male, was hospitalized.

Two passengers in the Pontiac were seriously injured and had to be hospitalized. The third passenger died at the scene.

Thomas was arrested on March 15, 2025.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Thomas with first-degree involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action. Thomas remains jailed without bond.
