ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Two horses, Apollo and Dorothy, were rescued this week in St. Louis County after falling on ice and were unable to get back up.
The Missouri Emergency Response Service for Large Animal Rescue on Sunday afternoon rescued Dorothy after falling on ice in Ballwin, Missouri.
After assessing the situation, the rescue team utilized a skid steer and lifting straps to lift up the horse and put hay underneath her hooves to help with traction while leading her to a barn. The rescue took around four hours for the team to complete.
On Monday afternoon, the rescue team again responded after the horse named Apollo was also found unable to get up after falling on ice in Wildwood, Missouri. An “A frame” was used along with lifting straps to get the horse back on his feet before walking him into a barn. The rescue took around three hours for the team to complete.
