ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Police have confirmed the identity of north St. Louis County woman who was electrocuted following Friday night’s severe storms.
The St. Louis County Police Department’s North County Precinct officers responded to a call for a sudden death in the 3000 block of Wintergreen Drive, just north of Florissant city limits, around 12:15 a.m. on Saturday.
Police found Jennifer Brewington near electrical lines in her backyard. Brewington was pronounced dead at the scene. She was 43.
A county police spokesperson said it appeared Brewington had gone outside to assess possible storm damage when she encountered a live electrical line.
County officials on Saturday encouraged people to use caution around power lines.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm this death due to Friday’s severe weather,” County Executive Sam Page said in a news release. “This heartbreaking tragedy underscores that downed power lines are extremely dangerous, and they are not always visible.”
