ST. LOUIS – Postal workers gathered Thursday morning in St. Louis for a protest as part of a national day of action against job cuts and the Trump administration’s plan to possibly privatize mail service.
Dozens gathered outside the St. Louis Postal Service building on Market Street, holding signs such as “U.S. Mail Not For Sale” and “Save The Postal Service.”
Last week, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy agreed to cut 10,000 workers and billions of dollars from the U.S. Postal Service budget. A letter to members of Congress acknowledged he would do that working with the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Postal service union leaders warn that cuts could strain mail service and put remaining workers under pressure.
