ST. LOUIS – A massive hole in the middle of a local street has had drivers swerving and residents frustrated for weeks.

FOX 2 took their concerns straight to city officials to find out what’s causing the delay.

According to people who work in the area, it’s posing a serious risk to drivers and pedestrians.

Drivers and business owners say they have repeatedly called the city  to report their concerns, but so far, there’s been no response.

Lynn Kuntz works nearby the massive hole and says it’s dangerous and has been there for weeks. Kuntz claims she’s contacted the city multiple times and has sent photos of the hole.

“It’s approximately a three-foot by three-foot, and it’s about two feet deep,” Kuntz said.  “They assured us that somebody would be out to inspect it.”

Drivers FOX 2 spoke with say avoiding the area has become a daily challenge.

“Warn the rest of the world they could lose a car in it,” driver Ken Abate said. “I’ve already blown out a tire this year.”

City officials notified MSD to check out the large pothole in north St. Louis. Crews determined the hole was not related to the public sewer system, and now, the city streets department will step in to make the repairs.

“We have gotten reports about this pothole now and looked into it,” said Rasmus Jorgensen, deputy director of Communications. “We needed to get MSD to come out and look at it to confirm whether it was related to a sewer or not. We found out it’s not, but we’re expecting this pothole to be filled later this week.”

The city of St Louis said crews have fixed about 700 pot holes in the last seven days and 14,000 in the last 30 days.
