SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — A rare copy of the Gettysburg Address is now on display at the Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library in Springfield, Illinois.
This handwritten version of the iconic speech, one of only five main copies, will be available for public viewing for the next ten days. President Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863, following the pivotal Battle of Gettysburg in July of that year, a turning point in the Civil War.
The display runs through November 24. After that, the document will be returned to the vault for preservation.
