BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Those planning to travel by plane over the next several days will need to have their Real ID.

At the Department of Motor Vehicles office off Main Street in Belleville, Illinois, many came in, with some feeling a sense of uncertainty.

“(It’s) a lot harder than I thought,” Marcia Phillips said. “I need my marriage license from 50 years ago in another state and I have to get certified documents from Nebraska and Alaska. Then if I had a current passport, it’d be okay, but I don’t know if my passport is current or not.”

The Illinois Secretary of State released a video, telling those in the Land of Lincoln about what they need to get their enhanced identification.

“We’ve had over a dozen press conferences on real ID and created a whole website for something that is a federal mandate,” said Alexi Giannoulias, Illinois Secretary of State.

Some offices in the area were not taking walk-ins and required appointments to be scheduled in advance in order to get the new Real ID.

The new Real ID requirements are set to take effect on Wednesday, May 7.
