ST. LOUIS – Simone Biles, a multi-champion and Olympic gymnast, is no stranger to the podium.
Biles will take the podium again—under different circumstances—at Washington University as the school’s commencement speaker for the 2025 class.
She is expected to address about 3,400 students, friends and family members of Washington University.
Chancellor Andrew D. Martin shared the announcement today, regarding Biles as one of the greatest athletes of all time. Martin also noted Biles’ advocacy for mental health in athletes, children in foster care and sexual assault victims.
“Simone is a wonderful example of the power of living life on one’s own terms with determination, grit and grace,” Martin said. “I am confident that she will inspire our graduates as they set out on their own journeys to greatness.”
During commencement, Biles will also earn an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.
The ceremony will take place on Monday, May 12, at 9 a.m.
After commencement ends, a festival will take place on the west end of the Danforth Campus to Tisch Park on the east end. The festival will feature entertainment, food, photo booths and more.
