JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – Heavy snow began falling Tuesday night in Jefferson County just as some shoppers were stocking up before hunkering down for the night.

“We’re here to buy some chili,” said Mike Hopkins, a customer at Karsch’s Village Market in Barnhart. He noticed some roads that were treated with ice-melting chemicals starting to refreeze.

“Subdivisions are a little slick,” resident Rick Chadbourne said.

Pevely resident Jess Stoneking stopped at Casey’s in Crystal City after a slow drive on Route 61/67.

“I was going 25 miles per hour,” he said.

The Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency encouraged residents to avoid travel during this latest round of winter weather. If you do need to travel, the agency reminds drivers to give snowplows plenty of room and to have emergency supplies just in case you run into trouble.
