ST. LOUIS – A shift in our weather pattern will help move the plume of wildfire smoke east of St. Louis on Tuesday, but it will also open the door to rain and storms returning to the forecast.
Tuesday starts sunny with increasing clouds into the afternoon, especially in Missouri. Highs are expected to be in the upper 80s.
A slow-moving cold front will approach from the west and team up with leftover moisture from what was once Tropical Storm Alvin in the Pacific Ocean to bring showers and thunderstorms west and northwest of metro St. Louis from late Tuesday afternoon until Tuesday evening. The threat of severe weather is low; however, areas west of St. Louis may experience training thunderstorms due to the slow forward motion of the cold front.
Flash flooding will be a threat for central Missouri. As the front slowly crawls across the region, scattered showers and storms will continue overnight and into Wednesday.
If you are headed to the Cardinals game or the USWNT match, things look dry for now. But Missouri drivers may encounter rain on the way to and from the games if headed in from the west.
The rest of the week will bring additional waves of rain and storms as the front stalls across southern Missouri into southern Illinois. Temperatures will be closer to average, with highs in the lower 80s.
