ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Deadly and historic flooding in south St. Louis County not only closed roads but also flooded homes, leaving residents frustrated with the Metropolitan Sewer District.
“It all started for us around 4:00 a.m., and it was non-stop,” Lemay Fire Public Information Officer Jason Brice said.
Gravois Creek raged next to Interstate 55 and Bayless Avenue, where a motorist drowned.
Brice called the south county flooding historic.
“We do experience flooding but not like this,” he said.
Brice said emergency workers needed boats to save drivers here at the creek in Bella Villa.
Not far away in Concord, homeowner Andy Bryant is furious with MSD over his flood-damaged home.
“Instead of draining to a main line or any kind of sewer system, it is currently hooked up into the ground,” Bryant said.
Bryant said he is thankful for his neighbors pitching in to help.
Another neighbor was also burdened with a flooded basement.
“What do you do? What do you do?” Steven Vanderkolb said.
An MSD spokesperson told FOX 2 that at least one property in that area has a documented history of flooding during severe rain events and is a potential candidate for a buyout.
