ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – An officer with the St. Louis County Police Department shot an armed man Saturday evening while responding to a ShotSpotter activation.

According to a county police spokesperson, the shooting occurred just after 9 p.m. in the 9800 block of Green Valley Drive in north St. Louis County.

When officers got to the location of the ShotSpotter alert, they found a man armed with a gun. Police said the man pointed the gun at an officer, who fired his service weapon and struck the suspect at least once.

The armed man was taken into custody and taken to an area hospital for treatment. Police said they recovered the man’s firearm at the scene.

The St. Louis County police officer who shot the armed individual is 24-years-old and has about three years of law enforcement experience. He was not injured.
