ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – It has been a long time coming, but the ribbon will finally be cut for the St. Louis County Police Department’s new north county precinct.
The new precinct is located on Dunn Road near Route 367 and I-270. A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning to celebrate the opening.
The facility is called the Joann Liscombe Building. The building honors Liscombe, who was a St. Louis County Police Officer that was killed in the line of duty back in 1991.
Doug Moore, the Chief Spokesperson for St. Louis County Executive Sam Page, says that the new building is more than twice the size of the old North County Precinct. There is secured and adequate parking for all of the police cruisers, along with a helipad on the new property.
Moore says that the building has more technology than the old precinct and is just better equipped to handle the overall functions of the police department.
St. Louis County has been leasing the space for its north county police precinct for the past 25 years. Owning the new building will end up saving the county up to $8,300 a month. The new precinct is about six months late in opening, according to Moore. The delays were from contractor issues and utility relocation problems.
The opening of the new precinct comes after the new Affton Southwest County Police Precinct opened back in March, which was named after Officer Blake Snyder, another county police officer killed in the line of duty.
The new mid-county precinct is currently under construction and is set to be completed in 2026. That building is going to be named after Antonio Valentine, a county police detective who also lost his life in the line of duty.
