ST. LOUIS – Two people were shot and killed today in north St. Louis.

“Oh no — not right here at home. You expect it everywhere else, but when it happens at home, it really touches your heart,” said Apostle Ariette Jefferson Murray.

St. Louis community leaders are in shock after a woman and a man were found dead  just a few blocks apart.

St. Louis city police say it all unfolded just before 7 Tuesday morning when police responded to the discovery on East Grand Boulevard, where the woman was found dead.

“Around 6:45 a.m., St. Louis 911 received a call for police help regarding a woman that may be getting attacked in the 2100 block of East Grand. An officer responded to the area, but they could not locate anyone or any witnesses. Officers search the area; nothing seems out of the ordinary,” said Mitch McCoy, Director of Public Affairs and Information for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Less than an hour later, just blocks away, a second body—an adult man—was discovered.

While officers were canvassing the area for evidence, they found a second individual, an adult man, who also died here near 20th and Obear in the alley.

Police quickly shut down both scenes and began collecting evidence. They have not confirmed whether the two deaths are connected or how they died but say both cases remain active.

Community leaders say regardless of the connection, two lives lost is one too many,  and are calling for the violence to end.

“It makes you tired. We have prayer outside, we do things for the neighborhood, and to hear that it’s still right in the neighborhood, it’s sad,” Murray said. We got alot of churches out here. We need to walk up and down the streets and let the devil know, no more it’s enough.”
