ST. LOUIS – St. Louis SC has announced that it has fired head coach Olof Mellberg today.
The club made the announcement on social media just before 7 p.m.
Mellberg only led the team for 15 games, and was hired last November.
For the 2025-2026 season, St. Louis City SC has only won two games and is 14th in the Western Conference.
“The decision to part ways with Olof goes beyond just results. We’ve analyzed the team’s performance across a number of factors, including the need to execute against a style of play that led to the team’s initial success and has been part of our DNA for four years. As a club, we have certain standards we need to meet and believe a coaching change was necessary to improve our overall performance and return to a winning culture,” said CITY SC Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel.
After Mellberg’s firing, the team announced that David Critchley will serve as the team’s manager until a new head coach is hired.
Critchley was St. Louis CITY2’s head coach, and that club so far has won six and lost four games in 11 matches this season.
St. Louis City’s next game is Saturday, May 31, against the San Jose Earthquakes.
