ST. LOUIS – Dressed as wizards, a group of St. Louis Battlehawks fans tailgated before Friday’s game.
The costumes were inspired by what they call fourth-quarter magic during last year’s season.
Wearing blue robes, they wave wands at opponents during third-down plays and chant, “You shall not pass!”
“St. Louis loves their football,” said Nick Snyder, a St. Louis Battlehawks fan.
He joined other fans in letting out a few “Kaw Kaws,” the bird call fans have made synonymous with their love for the city’s UFL team.
“We’re a sports city,” said Jim Heidger, a St. Louis BattleHawks fan.
Fans wearing St. Louis Blues hats and sweaters also entered the building. Fans cheered inside the Dome at America’s Center when highlights of St. Louis Blues goals from Friday night’s playoff game at the Enterprise Center were shown.
Fans attending the Blues game say this season has that same magical feeling the team displayed when they went on an unexpected playoff run and won the Stanley Cup.
“I think it’s very similar to 2019,” said Rachael Rassmussen, a St. Louis Blues fan attending Friday night’s game.
The busy sports night downtown included the St. Louis Cardinals returning home for a six-game series that began Friday.
“It’s good to just see the city come together,” Battlehawks fan McKinley Lewis said.
