ST. LOUIS – KFNS, a St. Louis sports-talk radio station known locally as 590 The Fan, plans to drop local programming after this weekend.
FOX 2 has learned that ownership informed KFNS staff members of the change. Starting Monday, the station intends to run nationally-syndicated shows in place of local programming.
The Barrett Sports Media group first reported of the upcoming change Wednesday evening.
KFNS owner Dave Zobrist has informed the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that this change comes as a “cost-cutting move” as he attempts to find a buyer. Zobrist has held ownership rights since 2021.
Current programming consists of several shows with St. Louis sports personalities like Bernie Miklasz, Jim Hayes, Charlie Marlow, Cam Janssen, Kevin Slaten, and many others, according to the station’s website.
After the change, 101 ESPN (WXOS – 101.1 FM) will be St. Louis’ only all-sports-focused radio outlet during prime hours.
