ST. LOUIS – Following Friday’s intense storms in the St. Louis area, several shelters are resources are available to families in need, and there are also some ways people can already help others in need.
Shelters
The American Red Cross has opened the following shelters in St. Louis.
- Grace United Methodist Church, 6199 Waterman Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63112
- Friendly Temple Outreach Center, 6356 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, St. Louis, MO 63133
- 12th & Park Recreation Center, 1410 S. Tucker Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63104
Anyone in need of shelter does not need to provide identification or proof of residency. You can also call the Red Cross on their 24-hour line at 1-800-Red-Cross (800-733-2767) or the St. Louis office directly at 314-516-2800 for more information.
Resources/How To Help
St. Louis City residents can report storm damage online to the Citizens’ Service Bureau.
The St. Louis Neighborhood Resource Center will open around 2 p.m. Saturday at Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis located at 1408 N. Kingshighway, offering information and storm-response resources for people in need.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) offers online guidance for how to clean up your home and document damage, and apply for disaster assistance if eligible after severe storms.
If you noticed a downed or damaged power line, do not make contact with it, and instead call Ameren Missouri at 800-552-7583 to report them. You can also report and check on power outages on Ameren Missouri’s website.
If you want to help storm victims through donations, the United Way of Greater St. Louis has set up a website for its relief fund. Additional resources from the United Way can be found here.
United Way’s Volunteer Center may also have some volunteer opportunities available for anyone looking to help with cleanup.
