ST. LOUIS – Thousands of sports fans are expected to be in downtown St. Louis this weekend.
Beginning Friday night, the St. Louis Cardinals host the New York Mets at Busch Stadium. Also on Friday, the Battlehawks and Arlington Renegades play at the Dome and the Blues host the Jets at Enterprise Center.
With this weekend being a hot spot for sports, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) looks to keep the city safe, with extra patrols in the area.
“Your SLMPD is prepared. But we also need your help to remain safe. Do not bring your firearm into downtown St. Louis and leave it in your vehicle,” said Mitch McCoy, Public Information Officer for the St. Louis Police Department.
St. Louis Metropolitan Police Officer Nathan Speiss, who suffered a catastrophic leg injury in March, will be honored tonight by the Blues.
Longtime blues season ticket holder Keith Rentschler, a fan of the Blues since 2007, is excited to attend the event and looks to get playoff merchandise.
“The fact they’re getting playoff experience with the young kids. No matter what happens, that will bode well for future years no matter what happens tonight,” Rentschler said.
Other fans are experiencing the St. Louis Blues’ playoff run for the first time.
“I hope (Jordan Bennington) does good,” said Akimi Roeder. “He’s my favorite player. Every time he keeps the puck from getting into the goal, I’m like, “Bennington!”
Whether for long-time or first-time fans, all of them are hoping for a win tonight. The Blues’ team store is open six days a week, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Enterprise Center.
