ST. LOUIS – One St. Louis shelter that is sheltering residents impacted by Friday’s severe weather will be closed tonight, citing an apparent roof leak.
The Grace United Methodist Church shared the announcement tonight following the St. Louis region experiencing unprecedented conditions once again. It is likely that last week’s storm worsened the roof’s condition.
According to the church, it will relocate shelter residents via Bi-State Metro to the 12th & Park Recreation Center and Refresh Community Church. This shelter is located off of Hanley Road in St. Louis.
“The safety of the shelter residents, staff, and partners is our top priority and with more severe weather in the forecast, the decision was made to relocate to other facilities,” the church wrote.
On Monday night, various counties in the region are under tornado watches, with many locals taking shelter. Golf-ball-size hail was also reported by many in the St. Louis area.
Other available shelters in St. Louis include:
