BALLWIN, Mo. – Tuesday, thousands of people were without power for the fourth day in a row after deadly storms ripped through the area over the weekend.

Powerlines were down near Parkway Central High School and nearby neighbors said they lost power Friday evening around 8 p.m.

Steve Bour said every day since the storm, he’s been outside cleaning up. He said it gets cold at night inside his home.

“It gets dark, I don’t know, at 8 o’clock so you’ve got the candles burning in the house and you know, that’s about it,” Bour said. “You get up the next morning hoping it’s going to come back on but so far, it’s been four days and nothing and this is the first time we’ve seen any trucks on the street.”

Councilwoman Shalonda Webb asked the St. Louis County Council to use Rams settlement money for cleanup efforts.

County Executive Sam Page said that could make more funds available for residents.

“What usually happens in a natural disaster like this is (that) we’ll access the emergency fund; there is about seven million dollars in the emergency fund and then that is reimbursed through FEMA,” Page said. “I think it’s a fine idea to have extra funds available.”

Governor Kehoe announced Tuesday that he believes the widespread damage across Missouri meets the threshold to receive federal assistance.

Initial reports show more than 700 homes received major damage or were completely destroyed, with another 1,000 homes with minor damage.
