ST. LOUIS – A free event aimed at ending the stigma surrounding mental health is taking place this Thursday in downtown St. Louis.
Organized by Team Jakey, a grassroots non-profit, the event ‘Taps for Team Jakey’ will be held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 4 Hands Brewing Company.
“We’ve really tried to be the fun uncles of the mental health space. We’re not therapists, we’re not counselors we don’t want to be. We want to be the bridge to help people get there,” said Max Otten, a board member of Team Jakey.
Team Jakey was founded in 2013 by family and friends following the suicide of Jake Zeller. The organization’s mission is to create a supportive community space where people of all ages can come together and feel less alone.
The event will feature live music, prizes, and entertainment for all ages, along with cold beer, all in support of raising mental health awareness.
For those unable to attend but wishing to contribute, donations can be made by emailing info@teamjakey.org.
By hosting events like ‘Taps for Team Jakey’, the organization hopes to foster a community dialogue about mental health and support those in need.
