GRANITE CITY, Ill. – The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis has announced the arrest of a woman who was at large for a suspected killing in Granite City last month.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) arrested Brittany D. Howard earlier this morning. Howard, 37, had an active warrant in relation to the death of Kenneth L. Whitehorn.

Whitehorn, 58, was discovered on April 24, when officials were alerted to Alton Street at Pontoon Road. A viewer, who was walking his dog out, stumbled across the body.

“I thought he looked like he wasn’t alive. He was lying face down,” Vance said previously to FOX 2. “It’s a quiet community. I walk the dog out here every day.”

Since then, an investigation into the suspicious death has been underway. Two men, DeWayne Franklin and Michael McCollum, were identified as potential suspects, along with Howard. Both men were taken into custody a few days after the murder took place.

Franklin, 41, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of being a felon in possession of a weapon and aggravated unlawful possession of weapons. And McCollum, 73, was charged with two counts of obstruction of justice and one count of aggravated unlawful possession of weapons.

With two suspects arrested, Howard was the remaining person officials were searching for in connection to Whitehorn’s death. And during that search, officials labeled Howard as “armed” and “dangerous.”

“We extend our sincere appreciation to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department for their cooperation and assistance and apprehension of Howard,” the Major Case Squad wrote.

Howard faces three counts of first-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action.
