ST. LOUIS — The Thurtene Carnival returns to Washington University this weekend, promising fun and festivities for all attendees.
Over forty student groups are participating in the carnival, marking the highest involvement since the COVID pandemic. The event runs from Friday to Sunday, offering a variety of activities and attractions.
“We definitely took a lot of precautions this year,” said Ginger Schulte, Thurtene Carnival President. “Notably, if you’re under 18, you need to be accompanied by a guardian, and no bags are allowed except for medical bags.”
“We got a great team in place,” said Jesse Siefert, Wash U K9 Officer. “All of our officers will be on staff for that. The dogs are ready, the booth is ready, which has been a big hit for us, so we’re set and everything is built to go.”
The celebration kicks off on Friday, with unlimited rides available from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. for those who purchase a wristband. Attendees can look forward to music performances and a turkey leg eating contest, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Safety is a top priority at this year’s carnival, with measures in place to ensure a secure environment for all visitors. These include restrictions on bags and requirements for minors to be accompanied by guardians.
Stray Rescue will also have a booth at the carnival, offering attendees the chance to adopt a new pet and provide a forever home.
