ST. LOUIS – Police arrested two dirt bikers overnight while responding to reports of people “driving recklessly” around St. Louis streets.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reports that a large number of dirt bike riders were traveling in a group, violating multiple red lights and fleeing from traffic stops. Police say they not only posed a danger to themselves, but to public safety.
“We will not tolerate this type of behavior,” said SLMPD via social media platform X.
While responding, officers were strategically positioned on Broadway near Choteau Avenue on the southern edge of downtown St. Louis. As officers approached one group of bikers to speak with them, they got on their bikes and took off, including one rider who had just unloaded his dirt bike from an SUV.
Police later seized that SUV, along with two dirt bikes. Two people were arrested, though it’s unclear if charges have been or will be filed.
“Our investigation is ongoing and we are working to hold the people who engaged in this dangerous behavior accountable,” said SLMPD.
St. Louis police encourage the public to report any suspicious or dangerous activity to local law enforcement.
