ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Two bison calves entered the world last week when they were born at the St. Louis County Lone Elk Park.

The St. Louis County Parks and Recreation announced the reddish-orange calves were born overnight last Tuesday, marking a new chapter for the wildlife park’s bison herd.

Park officials are advising visitors to remain in their vehicles and observe the new bison at a distance while visiting the wildlife experience.

“These calves are a sign of a healthy herd and a successful habitat,” said Pat Curry, Park Supervisor at Lone Elk Park, in a statement. “They’ll spend the next few months bonding with their mothers and gradually gaining independence. It’s a special time for the herd, and we’re thrilled to share it with the public.”

The bison can be seen at Lone Elk Park near Valley Park off Interstate 44 daily from 8 a.m. to sunset. The wildlife experience is home to bison, elk, deer, and other native animals.
