ST. LOUIS – A man was left dead and four others were injured late Sunday night after a shooting at Fairground Park in north St. Louis.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD), the shooting occurred at Fairground Park around 11:40 p.m. in north St. Louis’ Fairgrounds neighborhood. Police described the scene as large with numerous shots fired.
When officers arrived on the scene, police spokesperson Mitch McCoy reported that they found a 24-year-old man shot in the stomach and a 23-year-old man shot in the lower back. As officers assisted these victims, additional calls reported more shooting victims at hospitals.
Police said a 19-year-old man, who was among those transported privately to hospitals, later died from his injuries at the hospital. Additionally, a 20-year-old woman was grazed in the head, and a 35-year-old woman was shot in the stomach.
McCoy noted that there was a large gathering at Fairground Park before the shooting began. He also mentioned that the Fairground Park area has been a focus for crime-fighting efforts due to previous incidents.
Authorities have not identified any suspects in the case, and they urge anyone with information to contact police or CrimeStoppers.
