ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – An 18-year-old has been charged with spray-painting racist graffiti on two schools in the Affton School District within the past week.
The suspect, Patrick Sloan of Affton, is accused of targeting Affton High School and, most recently, Rogers Middle School on March 7 and March 12, respectively.
Surveillance footage from Rogers Middle showed a person wearing all-black clothing and a black raincoat, with a black bandana covering his face, defacing the school with hate graffiti.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, Sloan stole cans of black spray paint from a local hardware store on March 6. The following day, school officials at Affton High discovered swastikas and other offensive messages on outside wall.
On the morning of March 12, officers were notified just after 5 a.m. that similar messages were found spray-painted on the front facade of Rogers Middle.
Police said the messages included slurs, a threat to kill Black people, along with the phrase “witepower” [sic].
According to investigators a member of Sloan’s family, along with other witnesses, identified Sloan. The suspect allegedly admitted his crimes to a family member.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Sloan with two counts of second-degree property damage motivated by discrimination. Sloan is being held on a $25,000 cash-only bond. Online records show no scheduled court appearances for Sloan.
