ST. LOUIS — Four years after he was killed, a retired St. Louis Metropolitan Police captain leaves behind a powerful legacy. the Captain David Dorn Foundation has donated more than $300,000 worth of equipment to officers, firefighters, and medics.
Dorn spent nearly 40 years in law enforcement, as a captain with SLMPD, and later as chief of Moline Acres. In June 2020, following the unrest from the death of George Floyd, Dorn was shot and killed as he provided security to a friend’s business in north St. Louis. His killer was sentenced to life in prison.
His wife, Ann, established the Captain David Dorn Foundation in 2022 to honor her husband, who was known for taking care of his fellow officers. Since its inception, the foundation has donated equipment that would otherwise not be available to first responders, especially those working in smaller departments, and those in more rural communities. Flash lights, work boots, and tourniquets are among the many items donated.
Fox 2’s Jasmine Huda has more on the Captain David Dorn Foundation and the $1 million grant it recently received to support first responders.
