ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A 19-year-old man was arrested Monday after a 2-year-old shot themselves using a gun left within reach.

According to the Normandy Police probable cause statement, Jeremiah Woods, 19, was alone with the child on Sunday when the shooting occurred at a residence in Normandy.

Police said Woods was in the living room alone with the child when the 2-year-old grabbed a gun and was shot in the abdomen, causing serious injury. Police have not identified the current state of the child.

Woods was charged with one count of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. He is held with a $75,000 no ten percent. He is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on November 21 at 1:30 p.m.
