ST. LOUIS – A Venice, Illinois, man appeared in court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to a September carjacking in the city’s Tower Grove East neighborhood.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office the Eastern District of Missouri, Harry Moore, 20, was indicted for the carjacking and using a firearm in a violent crime last week.
The indictment said Moore is accused of stealing a 2022 Subaru Outback at gunpoint on September 9.
Additionally, a motion sought to have Moore held in jail until trial for stealing a Cadillac CTS with two other suspects. At the time of the second carjacking, Moore and the two suspects ordered the victim to unlock his cellphone and provide a pin number for his ATM card.
Reportedly, Moore had used the ATM card a short time later to withdraw cash at a BP gas station. Additionally, Moore was allegedly caught on camera later that morning in Ballpark Village sitting on the window frame of the stolen Subaru and firing shots at a man running away.
According to SLMPD, Moore is also believed to have stolen a vehicle from a St. Clair County circuit judge’s home, and police believe that vehicle was used when stealing the Subaru Outback on September 9.
Moore is accused of one felony count of carjacking and one felony count of possession and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said a carjacking charge is punishable by up to 15 years, a $250,000 fine, or both. The brandishing charge is also punishable up to seven years.
