ST. LOUIS – A 20-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison on Monday for a fatal shooting in July 2022 in the city’s Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood.
According to the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office, Davon Griffin-Curry, 20, was sentenced for the fatal shooting of Rickey Jemore Lathan, 35, on July 12, 2022, in the 2500 block of Semple Avenue.
Reportely, Lathan was in his front yard with his 10-year-old son and five-year-old daughter setting off fireworks around 11 p.m., and a bottle rocket shot across the street and hit the house of Griffin-Curry’s grandparents.
Griffin-Curry’s grandfather, Ronald Curry Sr., rushed out of the house angry and confronted Lathan. Davon and his young brother, Devin Griffin-Curry, ran out from behind their house firing 9 mm weapons. Davon and Devin hit Lathon 10 times, and he died at the scene.
Devin, 16 at the time of the shooting, stood trial as an adult and sentenced to 22 years in prison for second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Davon received a life sentence plus five years to be served consecutively for the fatal shooting.
