ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – As the National Weather Service works to finalize a total count of tornadoes that tore through the St. Louis region Friday evening, there’s one that notably stands out for its impacts in St. Louis County.

On Monday, NWS officials confirmed the presence of a powerful EF2 tornado that carved a 30-mile path through several densely populated parts of St. Louis County before briefly crossing state lines.

The particular twister touched down in Clarkson Valley, Missouri, and churned its way to Alton, Illinois, before it finally dissipated.

At its peak, this tornado spanned three-quarters of a mile wide. It traveled precisely 30.9 miles, frequently shifting directions from north, east and northeast.

The tornado left widespread destruction in its wake, damaging homes, businesses, trees, power lines and utility poles across multiple communities, including (but not limited to):

  • Clarkson Valley, Missouri
  • Chesterfield, Missouri
  • Maryland Heights, Missouri
  • Bridgeton, Missouri
  • Hazelwood, Missouri
  • Florissant, Missouri
  • Old Jamestown, Missouri
  • West Alton, Missouri
  • Alton, Illinois

FOX 2 learned of damages from this tornado near utility poles for Parkway Central High School, at the Creve Coeur Soccer Park in Maryland Heights, along the St. Charles Rock Road in Bridgeton and to several residential neighborhoods in Florissant.

While no fatalities were directly linked to this tornado, a woman in north St. Louis County near Florissant tragically lost her life after being electrocuted in the aftermath of severe storms.

As of Monday, the National Weather Service has confirmed at least 10 tornadoes in the St. Louis region, with more designations likely in the coming days.
