ST. LOUIS — A deadly winter tornado struck the St. Louis region 66 years ago today, causing widespread devastation.
The tornado, which lasted just 35 minutes, resulted in the deaths of 21 people and injured more than 300 others. It caused significant damage to homes, buildings, and businesses across the area.
Some of the most memorable damage occurred near Forest Park, where the KTVI broadcast tower crumbled. Additionally, part of the roof of the old Checkerdome was torn away as the tornado moved deeper into the city.
