ST. LOUIS – Earlier this week, a St. Louis Circuit Court judge signed an arrest warrant for a Glasgow Village man accused of starting a fire last summer inside a senior apartment building.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Demonte A. Russell, 21, with first-degree arson and first-degree burglary.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, Russell set the fire July 25, 2024, at Senior Living at Renaissance Place in the city’s Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood.

Police said Russell and a juvenile co-defendant entered the building and started a fire in an unoccupied apartment. The fire set off the sprinkler system.

Between the fire and the sprinkler system, the apartment sustained significant damage.

At present, Russell is on probation in three separate cases in St. Louis County for stealing, tampering with a motor vehicle, and drug trafficking.
